THE COMMISSIONERS OF FIRE DISTRICT NO 1

IN THE TOWNSHIP OF DOWNE

COUNTY OF CUMBERLAND

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

FEBRUARY 2020

February 3, 2020

Meeting called to order at 6:00pm by chairman Pharo.

Roll Call

Chairman Pharo, Secretary Higbee, Treasurer Robertson, Commissioner Lupton, Clerk Rothman.

Public on hand 6.

Minutes of January 6 were approved as recorded.

Motion to pay bills, Lupton, Pharo.

OLD BUSINESS

Mr. Robertson gave the following report,

  1. No new information on copier for Fortescue station, will report back next month.
  2. Physicals for members almost complete.

Mr. Higbee gave the following report,

  1. Petitions for elections received by the secretary.

Two petitions were filed.

Larry Pharo and Elizabeth Cowley will run for a 3-year term.

Frank Baginsky will not seek reelection.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. Robertson gave the following report,

  1. George asked Clerk Rothman to excuse himself from the room for a few minutes due to his position as a township committeeman. This was done to done to discus a matter that may present a conflict of interest. at this time Mr. Robertson read a letter to the board from the township solicitor that involves a township firefighter and a township line officer. It states that the township being the third party has received information that one of our members may have violated our sexual harassment policy. Mr. Robertson has contacted the boards attorney. The board has been advised to wait to see if we receive a formal complaint. At that time, he will instruct the board as to what corrective actions will be necessary. Chairman Pharo asked that Mr. Robertson keep the board advised of any new developments with this situation.
  2. All fire company hoses and ladders will be tested this spring.

Mr. Rothman gave the following report,

  1. Zack is no longer works for Ray Colavita office as our account liaison. The new contact will be Mike and Tom. Both are up to date with our budget and requirements.
  2. There is no information on our approved budget from the state at this time.

Mr. Higbee gave the following report,

  1. The advertisement of elections will be published in the local newspaper.
  2. Inventory of fire company tables and chairs will be done by the trustees this month.

Chairman Pharo reminded the board and anyone attending the meeting that elections will be held on the 15th of February from 2:00pm – 9:00pm at the Newport station. This will be for two board members and the 2020 budget.
